While living in Oman, it is not easy to entertain yourself as the place is rather calm and slow-paced. After deserted beaches and Oman Dive Centre it is worth checking what Nizwa is like on a Friday morning when people are heading to a weekend market…
They call it “goat market”, in fact, you can get anything in there from fresh fish, vegetables and fruit to clay pots, souvenirs, silver and gold. Every Friday from 6 am to 8 am the old castle area in Nizwa is buzzing with people carrying goods in and out, one to sell, others to fill the house with weekly groceries. But this part is less interesting as what I was there for was the goat market. Yes, people trade young little cows and goats and it is a whole show for a stranger like me.
